80s music

Another foot tapping show as we went through the music of the 80s.
Hilight probably when a vacuum cleaner popped out followed by one of the entertainers dressed as Freddie Mercury from that video and burst into I want break free.

The conditions on deck were so extreme with snow and very high winds that all external doors were barred, except one on deck 11 which appears to have completely blown off! They are trying to fix it now. Seas are still a little rough.

So no stargazing and I gave a talk on black holes instead.

It's colder here as we dock. I put every layer on which works out to be toasty warm despite -8. I'm escorting another tour. WW2 stuff. The cathedral and a museum which due to escorting a mobility issue guest I got there a little late and didn't take any pictures. Then to a barracks with views over the city. The to a U-boat pen. Now to hit the captains cocktail party.

Journey's start

What's it all about? I got offered the chance by go stargazing to be the resident astronomer on board the Fred Olsen Christmas cruise in search of the northern lights. I get a free cruise, provided I give a few lectures and stand in the cold and dark showing the passengers the night skies.  I will be sailing on the Balmoral , which can host 1325 guests, and 551 crew.  We will sail from Southampton across the North Sea to Norway, and then continue up to the very North of Norway beyond the arctic circle. I leave on the 22nd December!
